ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT 
The department was founded in August 1992. In 2000, the master program was established. The evening master program for teachers started in 2002. From 2007 the department changed the name to "Department of Early Childhood and Family Education".
The missions of the department are
I. To discover students' potential, to encourage students' creative thinking and to create positive learning environment.
II. To enhance students obtaining the essence of humanity, such as respectability and kindness, communication and sharing, and team cooperation.
III. To develop and integrate students' professional competence.
 
 PROGRAM GOALS
I. Undergraduate Program
The goals of the undergraduate program are
a. To prepare students' creativity, positivity in learning, and self motivation.
b. To prepare students to be trained professionals in early childhood and family education (abbreviated later as ECFE).
c. To develop students' interest and ability in ECFE.
d. To open up career opportunity for students to understand and practice in ECFE related business.
 
II. Master Program
The goals of the master program are to prepare students' ability
a. To complete the research independently.
b. To cooperate with others in the process of learning and developing researches.
c. To plan and evaluate ECFE related curriculum.
d. To deepen research-based analysis of ECFE related theories and practices.
 
CURRICULUM OBJECTIVES
 I. Undergraduate Program
a. The undergraduate programs include: teacher licensure program and general bachelor program.
b. The courses are designed not only to prepare students for educational careers but also for working in a diversity of settings- kindergartens, day care centers, family and community resource/ social settings, nonprofit organizations and corporates.
c. The courses enhance students' professional skills, develop their talents and individual strengths through various field experiences- curriculum and teaching area, industry and service area, family and child care area, preschool special education area, and soon.
d. Through developing students' research ability and interest, we want to prepare our students to be professionals with practical knowledge and skills in the working contexts.
 
II. Master Program
A. Instruction Goals:
The goals of the master program are to prepare professionals in the ECFE field and develop students' research ability. The courses are focused on the relations and synopsis between theories and practices. We provide various ways of teaching and discussion among students and faculty. Besides examined ECFE related issues, our faculty and students participate actively in conferences or professional events in order to broaden and deepen our field knowledge. Besides field research issues, the program includes five following areas and each area will address the importance and awareness of domestic issues and studies.
a. Young Children's Development and Life
b. Administration and Policies of Early Childhood Education
c. Early Childhood Curriculum and Instruction
d. Development and Career Plan of Early Childhood Educators
e. Family Education
 
B. Research Requirements
(REF to "Graduate School Student Handbook" under the chapter title "Methods to increase graduate students' academic research ability") All graduate students must complete the following diplomatic requirements: 
a. Attend at least six academic conferences
b. Before graduation, all master degree candidates must complete at lease one of the two followings:
  (a) Publish at least one article in educational academic related publications
  (b) Besides proposal oral examination and final thesis, all master degree candidates must hold a presentation of their theses either on-campus or off-campus
